That part will go FCB->midi interface->computer.Īudio goes a different path. ![]() So you're statement of guitar->fcb-> is incorrect. Remember that midi is really just control messages (including pitch messages from a keyboard). I also really liked using Live for its VST integration you know can process your guitar using any of the free VSTs out there (check out Glitch for some real craziness). Ableton has a "learn mode," which allows quick midi control associations. With Ableton and the FCB, it's a pretty fast setup regarding control. ![]() I ran this kind of setup for my electric rig a few years back, and now use something similar (Mobius looping software instead of Live) for my solo acoustic gigs. Any other equipment suggestions are also welcome, if you dig MIDI and have a favorite. I imagine I would be going from Guitar/keyboards/mic -> FCB1010 -> Computer with Ableton -> Amp. How would a MIDI set up like this work? I would like to know the cords involved, the order, etc. Is a MIDI set up even preferable, or should I stick with the RC-30? So really this all boils down to two questions, in order: The foot controller that was suggested was a FCB1010, which looks like a dream compared to a run of the mill looping pedal, especially the ones I've been using. I'm very comfortable with computers, so this looks great to me (CS minor whatup). So I'm looking into alternatives, and one that cropped up was Ableton Live (8 or 9) with a MIDI foot controller. ![]() Guitar shop attendants seem to have steered me wrong here, because they explicitly told me not to use a MIDI pedal. After cycling through some looping pedals and losing a bit of money buying and reselling like a careless piece of trash (damn eBay), I've landed on a BOSS RC-30. I'm interested in live looping (one man band style). The panel uses a custom USB pipe to access the UMI3 so that no conflict can exist between itself and the application which uses the MIDI stream.I've posted in this forum before about looping pedals but I think I've had a bit of a revelation, so forgive me if you saw my other thread and are bothered by the sequel. A button can also be set to autostep the sequence of another to achieve "next page" type functionality. Control or note sequences can be easily created and stepped through using this features. When the "Auto Step" feature is enabled for one or more of the switches, the panel steps through each of up to 8 different configuration memories and sends them to the UMI3 on the fly when the corresponding button is released. It allows configuration of the UMI3 and can also work as a sequencer. This controller is ideal to control events and parameters in digital audio workstations or loop based recording programs when performance renders access to a mouse impractical.Ī Setup Panel for the UMI3 is available for Mac OSX and Windows. A status LED indicates power and USB activity. Each of its three switches can be configured to send any type of short MIDI message (note on/off, continuous controller, program changes.) An external expression pedal can be connected to the "exp" input which can be configured to send any continuous controller message. The UMI3 is a USB foot controller which shows up as a class MIDI device on Mac or PC.
